Civolution
A giant dice-driven Feld sandbox where you grow a civilization your own way.
Designed by Stefan Feld · 2024
If you already love heavy Euros, this might be Feld's biggest and best playground yet. If you don't, it won't convert you, and it'll eat your whole table doing it.
Best for: Dedicated Euro groups who want a long, deep, build-it-your-way evening
What it is
Civolution is Stefan Feld going big. You're growing a little civilization across four eras, exploring a modular map, gathering resources, and feeding a personal console packed with actions. The clever bit is the dice. You roll your own pool, then spend pairs to trigger things, and 'ideas' tokens let you nudge bad rolls. It's a sandbox, and people love how many honest paths to victory it offers.
The catch
Now the caveats, because there are real ones. This thing is a table hog. Reviewers warn it barely fits a standard table, and at two players a board will likely hang off the edge. Teaching and setup are a chore, and that wall of actions on your console can freeze new players solid. There's also luck here: dice, event cards, hidden map bits. Expect a two to four hour night, longer your first time.
Who it's for
So who's it for? Devoted Euro players who want a deep, build-it-your-way evening and don't blink at long sessions. Folks call it maybe Feld's best, a glorious sandbox that rolls his greatest hits into one box. If heavy games already aren't your thing, this won't flip you. But if your group lives for big strategic puzzles, clear a lot of space and dig in.
