What it is
Here's the hook that makes Raiders different. Every turn you place a worker to grab an action, then you pick up a different worker somewhere else and trigger that spot too. Two actions, one turn, and the board keeps shifting under everyone. You're hiring crew, stocking provisions, then sailing out to raid settlements, pulling plunder from a bag while a lurking Valkyrie might claim a crewmate. Gold and fame both score. It's clean.
The catch
The catch real players keep naming is the card luck. You draft crew off a shared row, and if the good ones never show, you can grind a careful game and still lose by a mile to someone who drew gold. There's no real way to dig or pick, so the gap between first and last often comes down to the deck, not the decisions. Add the fourth player and turns slow a touch, since the spot you wanted gets taken or emptied right before you. It bites.
Who it's for
So who's this for? You, if you want a Viking Euro that sets up, plays, and packs away inside ninety minutes without a tutorial marathon. It's a brilliant step up from gateway games and a lovely two-player night. Just know the shine fades once you've mastered the loop, and the draw luck means it rewards a good attitude over a grudge. Worth owning. Not worth worshipping.
